The world famous Char Dham Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath stand as the spiritual heart of northern India. The traditional yatra begins at Yamunotri, the source of the revered Yamuna. The journey continues to Gangotri, where the Ganga originates from the mighty Gangotri glacier at Gaumukh, a breathtaking ice formation shaped like a cow’s mouth. Here the river is known as Bhagirathi in honour of King Bhagirath. Flowing downstream, it merges with the Alaknanda and becomes the sacred Ganga. The pilgrimage then moves to Kedarnath, the highest among the twelve Jyotirlingas, a place where Lord Shiva revealed himself in the form of divine light. The journey concludes at Badrinath, the sacred seat of Lord Vishnu. Many pilgrims also visit Gurudwara Sri Hemkund Sahib Ji, one of the highest and most revered Sikh pilgrimage destinations. It is believed that heaven and earth meet in these serene Himalayan spaces, making every moment spent here spiritually uplifting.
